I always equate the first day of Spring with 2 things: Gardens blooming with flowers, and Spring cleaning! If you’re like me, you may prefer the former to the latter!
If Spring is like a breath of fresh air, in 2021 this is an understatement. We’re starting to benefit from some lifting of restrictions that had been in place during the Pandemic. As of last night, 23.9% of the US population had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 13% of the population in the US had been fully vaccinated. This means people are starting to be able to see or hug family members, rather than FaceTiming, Zooming, or being isolated at home.
Most of us have been somewhat stir-crazy, spending so much time at home. With Spring, comes the opportunity for warmer weather, and spending more time outdoors. Early on in the shutdown, it was not uncommon to take on home renovation projects or get rid of unwanted items as we searched for outlets for our energy while in our homes. Now that a year has gone by since the original shutdown, many of us may find that our homes which were getting cleared out, cleaned up, and fixed up a year ago, are now
ready for Spring cleaning again.
What would make the biggest difference for you, if you were to take on some Spring cleaning? What area of your home or office (and for many of us, our office is in our home these days) would you most like cleaned up and organized? Is it your closet? Non-profits who serve the unemployed and underemployed are re-opening to provide professional clothing for people going on interviews (DressForSuccess.org). If you have a tough time letting go of things, you may find inspiration in Marie Kondo’s book: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up or her Netflix special.
If you have a big item or stuff that won’t easily fit in your vehicle or you just want support, consider Junkluggers. This is a nationwide franchise whose mission is “To enhance lives, our community, and the environment by donating, recycling, and supporting local charities.” They return the donation receipts to you and the bare minimum ends up in the landfill.
Perhaps as you consider what it is most in need of Spring cleaning, you realize it is not your space, it is your mind! Is your mind constantly full of thoughts about everything you need to do, everyone who wants your help, and the lack of time you feel you have to get it all done?
Are you so overwhelmed you can’t focus and feel that even when there are blocks of time, you’re not being as productive as you know you could be? You have 2 choices: mind full or mindful. Practicing mindfulness can clear your mind from the worrisome, useless clutter that causes stress, anxiety, sleepless nights and inhibits your ability to relax, enjoy life, and focus on what is truly important.
Do you like the idea of practicing mindfulness to increase your experience of calmness, relaxation, and enjoyment but aren’t sure how to do that? Take a look at my on-demand course: Declutter Your Mind In 30 Days.
As always, feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I’m here to support you! And whatever you do, enjoy the arrival of Spring!
